RVC was officially brought to the Greater Philadelphia area in May of 2025. Our team is continuing to grow as we speak. Any and all experienced coaches and players can contact one of our directors, listed below, if interested in joining our RVC team!

Director
Devon Smallwood
Devon Smallwood brings over seven years of coaching experience, working with athletes across all ages and competitive levels. At every stage, her focus remains the same: developing well-rounded players on and off the court.
A former NCAA Division I athlete at the University of Connecticut, Devon made her mark with over 1,000 career kills and digs. As a team captain, she was known for her leadership, competitive drive, and relentless work ethic.
Devon’s love for volleyball began early and continues to fuel her commitment to excellence in every coaching role. Respected for creating a positive, disciplined, and high-energy team culture, she focuses on building solid fundamentals, empowering athletes with confidence, and inspiring a commitment to continuous growth.
Her goal is simple: to help every athlete grow, compete with confidence, and develop a lifelong passion for the game.
Outside of coaching, Devon enjoys spending time at the beach and making memories with her husband, two daughters (Georgia and Maya), and their dog, Pablo.

Director
Coach, 15 - Black
Steven Lieber
Steven Lieber brings over 20 years of coaching experience at the high school, club, and collegiate levels. Alongside being co-director of RVC, he is excited to lead the Merion Mercy Volleyball program for the 2024-2025 season.
A Philadelphia native, Steven played in the Public League and later worked with the Penn State Women’s Volleyball program while attending college. Most recently, he served as Assistant Director and Recruiting Coordinator at East Coast Power Volleyball, where he helped athletes grow on the court and navigate the college recruiting process.
Steve’s coaching style is rooted in cultivating effort and hard work, technique, and developing a strong team culture. He strives to bring a sense of community and competition to the club volleyball scene and work with players to be the best at any level they strive to compete. The core of Steve’s coaching approach is playing with intention.
Outside of coaching, Steve spends time with his wife Emily, two sons (Jonathan and Ethan), and two dogs (Frosty and Penny). He loves playing board games and golfing with his kids.

Coach
Jared Ray
Jared Ray is a former pro player bringing 3 years of coaching and over 12 years of playing experience to RVC. His focus is breeding a positive, competitive, and encouraging environment for all athletes.
Growing up in the greater Philadelphia area, Jared played club throughout the region. As an adult, volleyball brought him as far as Budapest, Hungary, where he just finished his first professional season. No matter what time of year it is, you’ll find Jared doing something related to volleyball!
Coach Jared’s mission is to develop a series of mental and physical skill sets that athletes can use beyond the bounds of the courts on which they compete. Highly technical and full of passion, Jared’s extensive playing history, in conjunction with years of coaching experience, makes him an educated, competitive, and compassionate coach.
When he’s not playing, coaching or watching volleyball, Jared enjoys hiking, cooking, and traveling.

Coach, 18-Black
Kayla Mastin
Kayla grew up in Canajoharie, NY, where her volleyball journey began. From being a 4-year varsity starter to competing nationally with Lakeside VBC and USANY, her path took her all the way to the USA Volleyball pipelines, training at Olympic Training Centers and playing in the High Performance Championships.
She continued her career at the NCAA DII level with Florida Tech, earning both All-District and Academic All-American honors while completing a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering — followed by an M.S. from Drexel University.
With experience coaching athletes of all levels, Kayla is passionate about creating a competitive, respectful, and empowering environment on and off the court.

Lead Coach & Coordinator, RVC City
Stasia Sumpaopol
Stasia brings over 19 years of combined playing and coaching experience to the court. An alumna of Villa Maria Academy, she played under Joe Boland and helped lead her team to a second-place finish in the Pennsylvania state finals her senior season. She went on to compete at the collegiate level as a right side and defensive specialist at Division I Loyola University Maryland, graduating in 2010. During her junior year, she traveled with USA Athletes International, playing in Germany and the Netherlands.

Stasia began her coaching journey with TCA Volleyball Club in Baltimore while still in college, later coaching for Valley Forge Volleyball Club and Philadelphia Volleyball Academy. After a brief pause to focus on teaching and motherhood, she spent the past eight years building and growing the middle school volleyball program at The Philadelphia School, where she also teaches middle school science.
In 2023, Stasia launched the Philadelphia division of East Coast Power Volleyball in Center City and has spent the last two years establishing and expanding its presence. She is passionate about creating a healthy, inclusive, and supportive environment for players of all skill levels. Anastasia deeply believes in the power of sports to provide belonging, build community, and teach young people essential lessons about collaboration, resilience, and empowerment both on and off the court.
She is the proud mom of three and brings her dedication to education and youth development to every aspect of her coaching.

Coach, CORE Strength & Conditioning
Ayana Howard
Ayana Howard brings a dynamic blend of athletic experience and professional expertise to her role as Strength and Conditioning Coach at Renaissance Volleyball Club. A former Division I volleyball player at La Salle University, Ayana earned her ACE certification during her collegiate career while completing a dual degree in Communications and Biology. She later went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, solidifying her foundation in human performance and athletic development.

Ayana’s career has spanned all levels of sport—from high school standouts to elite athletes in the NBA, NFL, FIBA, and NCAA Division I programs. She continues to elevate athlete performance through her work as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and Licensed Sports Massage Therapist. Her science-backed, athlete-first approach makes her a valuable asset to the Renaissance Volleyball Club’s mission of developing strong, resilient, and high-performing players.

Coach, 17 - Black
Mickey Whitherspoon
Mickey began her volleyball journey playing NCAA Division III volleyball at Bryn Mawr College from 2008 to 2012. While pursuing her master’s degree in Public Administration at the University of Pennsylvania, she continued competing at the club level.
After completing her graduate studies, Mickey spent three years as the head coach of the University of Pennsylvania's women’s club team. She then coached for one season with the Philadelphia Starlings Volleyball Club before joining East Coast Power Volleyball in King of Prussia as an assistant coach for three years.
Mickey is now excited to bring her experience and passion for the game to Renaissance Volleyball Club.

Coach, 16 - Black
Megan Forstburg
Meg brings a strong background in both playing and coaching to her role, with a deep passion for developing well-rounded athletes.
While completing her undergraduate studies, Meg began her coaching journey with Revolution Volleyball Club, leading their 15U team during her junior and senior years (2019–2020). Most recently, she coached the 15U team at East Coast Power Volleyball during the 2024–2025 season.
Meg played collegiately at Shippensburg University, where she was a four-year starter. Throughout her career, she helped lead her team to PSAC and NCAA Tournament appearances every season. In 2019, she was named to the All-PSAC Team and concluded her career ranked second in school history in digs, with an impressive total of 2,073.
Meg’s coaching philosophy centers on developing the complete athlete—both on and off the court. She believes that success in volleyball is built not only on technical skills, but also on mental toughness, confidence, and character. Her approach emphasizes resilience, communication, and self-belief, alongside continual growth in game fundamentals and team dynamics.

Through structured training, individualized support, and a positive, competitive environment, Meg aims to foster athletes who lead with integrity, face challenges with poise, and perform with confidence. Volleyball is the platform—but her goal is to instill values and habits that extend far beyond the court.
